Austria - the land of winter sports 7 January 2010

If you want to have the best skiing experience - all year round - then Austria is the place to be. Here you can also find the gear that you need - and not only for skiing. Austrian companies offer everything sporty for even the most discerning customers.

Austria is truly the ideal land for winter sports. On the one hand you can find the very best conditions for practising every kind of winter sport - thanks to the glacial ski areas, this is even true all year round. On the other hand, this has developed into a key economic sector in Austria, which is considered a trailblazer in terms of innovation and development, especially when it comes to skis.

The Austrian ski industry started out around 60 years ago in small carpenters' and wagon-makers' workshops. Major ski brands such as Blizzard, Fischer and Atomic were all born in workshops like this. In the 1990s, Austrian ski brands already held around 50% of the world market. Since then, over half of Austrian ski production is exported.

However, Austria does not only offer skis. Many Austrian companies now offer a wide array of winter sports products and gear as well as the clothing and technical equipment that go with it. Austria boasts world-class companies in every one of these segments.
