The University of Vienna is the largest research institution in Austria and one of the oldest (founded in 1365) and largest universities in Europe: around 10,900 employees work in 20 faculties and centres, including around 7,600 scientists.

Some 85,000 national and international students are currently studying at the University of Vienna. With 187 degree programmes, it has the most diverse range of courses in the country (as of April 2025).
